Abraham Lincoln had a reputation for being with abolition; he resisted laws by the federal government called the Confiscation Acts it was to make the union think about freeing slaves. The first one of these acts freed all slaves that served in the Confederate military; this act was called the Confiscation Act of 1861. Although President Lincoln was afraid of this act because he feared that it would have an effect on the political climate. Even though Abraham Lincoln didn't like the acts the congress did so the made another one called Confiscation Act made on July 17, 1862. Compared to the other one this one had more of a direct effect this one declared freedom for civilian and military Confederate officials, the act was pointed towards certain areas.
Then the Emancipation Proclamation was made by Abraham Lincoln to help free the slaves over time. Although 800,000 slaves were declared free by the declaration, none of the owners wanted to give up their slaves, though many slaves left to join the union. This helped the freeing of slaves.
After that many slaves continued working for their owners mostly it was because they thought that if they left their owners than their safety would be put at risk, so then the 13th amendment was made to protect them. It was approved on December of 1865. This Helped free the slaves.
